CNC Lathe Machinist–Setup Technician

new CNC turning cell. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a new machine equipped with a bar feeder and play a direct role in establishing manufacturing methods.

Production will consist mainly of repeat parts in small and medium runs, made for assemblies used by manufacturing and industrial customers.

Your Role

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will prepare, set up and operate a CNC lathe to produce parts that meet drawing specifications and the company’s quality and productivity requirements.

You will help establish best practices in the new turning department and continuously improve its work methods. You may also work on other CNC or conventional machining equipment as needed.

Key Responsabilities

• Read and interpret technical drawings, tolerances and requirements;

• Determine appropriate machining sequences and methods;

• Set up, adjust and operate equipment;

• Install and adjust cutting tools, toolholders, chuck jaws and workholding devices;

• Prepare and/or adjust CNC programs at the machine control or using CAM software;

• Produce, measure and approve first articles;

• Make necessary tool offset and program corrections;

• Monitor tool wear and maintain process stability;

• Diagnose machining issues and make the required corrections;

• Optimize cycle times, cutting parameters and tool use;

• Perform basic daily and preventive maintenance on the equipment;

• Document programs, setups, tools and parameters to ensure repeatable production;

• Work with the programming, estimating, production and quality control teams;

• Follow health and safety procedures and the company’s quality and productivity standards.

Qualifications

• DEP in Machining Techniques and ASP in CNC Machining, or equivalent experience;

• At least five years of relevant experience;

• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings;

• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments;

• Ability to make program and tool offset corrections;

• Familiarity with Mitsubishi and/or Fanuc CNC controls is preferred;

• CNC programming and CAM software experience is an asset;

• Experience with bar feeders, live tooling or Y-axis machining is an asset;

• Experience with small and medium production runs is an asset;

• Independence, resourcefulness and sound mechanical judgment;

• Attention to detail, a commitment to quality and strong organizational skills;

• Willingness to share knowledge and contribute to the department’s development.
